Freedom Federal Credit Union is proud to announce they are once again partnering with the Aberdeen IronBirds to offer Hits for Healthy Kids. This season, every time an IronBirds player gets a hit during a home game, Freedom Federal Credit Union will donate $10 to benefit services for children in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford and Cecil Counties. Hits for Healthy Kids started on May 4th on opening day and will run through the end of the regular IronBirds season.
Hits for Healthy Kids began in 2019 which purchased 300 pediatric spacers for children with breathing issues at the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Hospital. In a 2018 iteration of the partnership, Homeruns for Healthy Kids, Freedom came together with the Aberdeen IronBirds to benefit services for children at the MedStar Health Bel Air Medical Campus. Freedom has donated a total of $5,600 towards these youth-based programs as a result of these initiatives. After the 2020 season was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, Freedom and The IronBirds are geared up for the new season that began on May 4th.
“We are looking forward to a great extended season with Freedom Federal Credit Union, which will give us more opportunity than ever before to positively impact many area youths with the Hits for Healthy Kids program,” stated Jack Graham, IronBirds General Manager. “I’m confident our IronBirds will be doing everything they can on the field to make sure Boys & Girls Clubs benefit from our continued relationship with Freedom Federal Credit Union.”
“The IronBirds and the Boys & Girls Clubs represent two great Harford County organizations, and we are proud to join forces with them in an effort to support healthy outlets for local kids”, stated Freedom’s President and CEO Mike MacPherson.
With Hits for Healthy Kids, Freedom builds on its existing partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford and Cecil Counties, which dates back to 2012. Freedom’s Business Development Director, Lisa Snodgrass, also serves on the Board of Directors for Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford and Cecil Counties.
“Freedom has shown their support for our Clubs in the gift of time, talent and treasure for several years. They have contributed to our mission and have proven excellent community partners,” stated Derek Dewitt, Executive Director of the locally-based Boys & Girls Clubs.
